Welcome to the First
Time Marathoners Web Site! Ryan Stuart is writing an article about first time marathoners and choosing their first marathon for Running Times Magazine. He would like any first timers to contact him at ryan.stuart@shaw.ca to tell him how you chose your first marathon, what you looked for, what you avoided, how you decided what kind of race is good for you. Please help him out if you can. On to the site.....
Running (or walking) a 26.2 mile marathon (or
13.1 half-marathon) is one of the greatest
challenges in life, and just making the decision alone is monumental. YOU CAN DO
IT! Getting your body and mind ready for your first marathon is the first step.
This site is designed to help the first time marathoner prepare for your first
race, as well as a forum for other first time marathoners and experienced
runners to share questions, advice and inspiration. I started this
site because I found no site specifically for first time marathoners when I
trained for my first marathon, Rock 'n Roll in June of 2000. (Click HERE
for the about me section). As many of
you know, when you become a runner, you become one of many in a wonderful
community all over the world.
I would personally like to thank
Art
Liberman, without whose help the training schedules and advice for first
time marathoners would not be possible! (Thanks ART!) Please check out Art's
website at www.marathontraining.com!
I also highly recommend The Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society's TEAM IN TRAINING Program for your first marathon! What's the
best way to do your first marathon? For someone else. TEAM IN TRAINING provides
coaches, support staff, training schedules, and a patient to run for, among
other things. Believe me, it's truly a life changing experience. Click below to
check out their web site for more information.
